I have been wondering if there is actually any way to make the server record demos of matches. for instance when we demo individually we only get one perspective and alot of times they get messed up due to some reason or another. but if we could have the server actually demo for us during matches in spectator. we could get all point of views, and would more then likely cut down on botched demos, and might actually produce some nice footage aswell. my question is not really a mod just a thought...

That could be related to Shar's question about T:V TV and will probably be explored in that context.  I'm sure the video makers out there would like this feature though :)

I didn't mean it for shoucasting, thats a whole different subject. I meant this for competition demos one demo for the whole thing nobody but the server admin has too upload/distribute it. It would simplify the demo pains alot of us have problems with, myself included.

Yeah vid makers would love this feature i bet.

This may be explored in the T:V TV context, but I doubt this feature will become a reality. The technical scope of this problem and time investment vs. benefit would not likely rank as a high priority. Regardless, it will be on my mind.

there is a server side demo recording function which records all viewpoints, but so far I have found it to only be accesable on a listen server that I host, and it is only the hosts demo that has these features. If you record a demo on your server as the host of you own server and it is a basic listen server setup through the multiplayer console, you will get:

1. Free cam, the camera will be able to spectate in several ways:
a: A free flowing mode at a constant speed guided by you using wasd controls, exactly like speccing in a pub
b: A fixed position where the camera spawns, unable to move but with the same mouse control as the spec cam
c: A view from any of the mannable turrets on the map, unable to move but with the same mouse control as the spec cam, however the turret still shows, hence why this camera doesn't look so great for video making (only a personal consideration most likely but ^^)
d: A guided view of any of the players playing in first person, third seems to be currently unavailable, and there is a strange problem with custom fovs (above 90) where the weapon will be foved and appear strange, but the rest of the screen won't so the best bet is to set it to fov 90.
2: There will be no hud of any sort
3: Ingame sound may appear muted or cut off (this may just be a problem with me)
4: Occasionally animations will not happen, so the spinfuzor will spit out a disc but not appear to reload, and will go straight onto the next disc.

note: these effects are according to my way of recording, which is specate, start recording, join team, shoot footage, stop recording. There *may* be different effects with different ways of recording, I have yet to test this.

This should hopefully tell you everything you could need to know about serverside recording, it may indeed be applicable to do this for a large multiplayer server, but as far as I know it would only be applicable for listen servers, with the host either playing in or sitting in on evry game.

Mainly I just wanted to know if there was a way to just start up the servers demorecord, because it is in the properties of every server. I was just curious if there was a way to start it.

To what rapher said, I looked into the UTV it looks very possible. change of the file format and a little tweaking I bet it could be used. since unreal uses *.utx and t:v uses *.u files.  I wouldn't consider this a high priority, but it would be sweet to watch the action out side of t:v., aslong as it didn't drag hardcore on a server.

thanks for the replies tho =]

used do to this all the time in unreal1 .. was great to have these demos where you could watch and jump from player to player and see whats 'happening in match.  problem is that it was really processor intensive ... and given the already high server demands made by TV ... I don't think it would benefit gameplay in a match environemnt.  lag city.  :/

I host a server all the time, and I demo most of the time... it don't effect my game play at all and I'm the host. My computer isn't the greatest. Most servers are more up to date then my pc. So I really don't think it would impact game play that much.

also I bet less then antics does to a server. 90% of the lag on antics servers is antics relaying information to and from IRC. I put antics on every server. but since it's not going to IRC better gameplay. I'm not putting antics down, because it's the best mod for T:V. I have suggested that rapher make antics log to it's own file and when cheaters are caught it can be given to the proper people and have them added to the list of cheaters.

Considering you can tweak your server into very minimal settings to make it run alot better. Which most people don't know how to do.  I have helped setup plenty of servers. There are alot of ways one can make their server run a little better.  Alot of the lag on servers is due to the box or the "dedicated server" being ran on the settings it's installed with, usually the highest the server can take. which is fairly taxing on the server aswell as antics. Higher settings then you need on a server, that don't need to see the highest settings. if you understand my point. You can drop all the settings to bare minimum, and that will improve server processing speed and reduce lag.  I have done this on quite a few servers.

Hey cix
Long time no talk to. Hey I just built a pc to use as server for T:V.
EGVA i680 SLI mobo, Pentium E660 conroe dual core cpu, 4 gigs corsair ram(DDR2), raptor Harddrive, nvidia graphics card. dual lan setup. All this for a T:V server. My Internet connect speeds are 10mb (10,000kbps down, 1mb(1063kbps upload) Are you saying set all settings to minimum will improve server play? Also I have had a problem getting antics V3 to work. It won't allow the maps to upload. Any suggestions? And how can I get antics to load when I start the server without using console?
I am running a dedicated server

Please refer to your private messages for help on antics. For your reference, you may additionally start antics in game by logging in as admin, and in the console typing:

admin switch mp-emerald?mutator=antics_v3.antics

Where mp-emerald may be substituted for any map name.
